11th Annual NMAA Athletic Trainer Challenge
UPDATE
Dear New Mexico Athletic Trainers,
I am pleased to announce the 11th annual New Mexico Activities Association Athletic Training Student Challenge scheduled in Las Cruces, NM Sunday, April 25th at Onate High School with a 7:30am check-in.
As always, this event is a grassroots effort to recognize and reward our athletic training students. These students spend endless hours supporting our athletic teams and often go unrecognized. This event provides an opportunity to recognize their efforts and reward them with a weekend of camaraderie.
The event maintains a Sunday schedule in an effort to allow you the time needed to cover your Saturday events and still be able to participate. The format will include a 125-150-question multiple choice exam to cover basic, intermediate and advanced topics taken from the Arnheim test bank. A general study sheet is included to providing your students with some direction. An oral exam is included as always. Top three places will be awarded for both individual achievement and team scores on these two combined events. Schools can field up to 3 teams of 4, but will only be allowed 1 place amongst the top three. This ensures success for 3 different schools. The Olympics will consist of practical skill and team building activities in a relay race format in a mixed-team design. Each team will consist of students from different schools. Twelve awards will be given to the top three teams. This is an effort to build camaraderie amongst the high school students and ensure greater student recognition. In addition we will host a presentation related to a sports medicine topic.
Attached is the required NMAA eligibility form. Each student must have one signed by a school official on file the day of the event. This is a basic requirement for us to secure financial assistance. Please also set aside a ½ case of tape and a few rolls of pre-wrap for use on the practical and olympic events.
I look forward to your participation and help in moving our students in the right direction. Paid registrations are due by Friday March 26th so we have enough time to order shirts and NMAA certificates. A hard deadline will be enforced this year to prevent out of pocket costs associated with students registering but not attending. You can mail your applications with checks made payable to David Gallegos to the address below. Receipts will be issued the day of the event. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me by e-mail or at the number below.
Respectfully,
David Gallegos MA, ATC, Cert. MDT
